Discover great deals on rum (spirits) at BorderShop
At BorderShop, you’ll find a wide range of both light (also known as white) rum and dark rum. The difference between light and dark rum can primarily be distinguished by the ageing period and the treatment during the distillation process. Light rum is aged for shorter periods, typically between one and three years, and has a clear or light golden colour with a fresh and light flavour profile. Dark rum usually undergoes a longer ageing process, often for at least three years, which gives it its rich and complex flavour profile. At BorderShop, you’ll find well-known brands offering both light and dark rum, such as Bacardi, Captain Morgan and Havana Club. There are plenty of opportunities to find a great offer and enjoy a new taste experience in BorderShop’s wide selection of white and dark rum.
The history of rum
Rum is a distilled spirit made primarily from fermented sugar cane juice, which has been known and produced for centuries. Originally, rum was produced in the Caribbean, where sugar cane was readily available. It has a rich and complex flavour and is known for its sweetness and spicy character. The history of rum can be traced back to the 17th century, when it was produced in the Caribbean and later spread to the rest of the world. Today, countries such as Jamaica, Barbados, Cuba and the Dominican Republic are renowned for their rum production.
Rum recipes
Rum can be enjoyed on its own with ice cubes, but it is also the perfect base ingredient for a cocktail. Why not try the Piña Colada cocktail, where white rum is mixed with pineapple and coconut, or try the refreshing Mojito, where white rum is complemented by mint, sugar, lime juice and sparkling water. If you prefer dark rum, try a Dark ’n’ Stormy mixed with ginger beer, or combine rum with Coca-Cola and enjoy the classic Cuba Libre, better known as rum and coke.
