Sangiovese Grosso—known locally as “Brunello,” the name that gave the wine its identity—is a specific clone of Sangiovese, carefully selected in Montalcino by local landowners in the second half of the 19th century. Brunello wines are known for their elegance and long ageing potential and are today regarded as among Italy’s most prestigious red wines, made only from the finest grapes.
