Scottish whisky, Irish whisky and American bourbon

Scottish whisky can be divided into two main categories: single malt and blended whisky. Single malt whisky, also known as Scotch, is made exclusively from malted barley at a single distillery, and every bottle comes from the same distillery. Blended whisky, on the other hand, is a combination of malt whisky and grain whisky from different distilleries.

Scotch whisky offers a wide range of flavour profiles, including smoky, fruity, spicy or nutty notes. Irish whisky is known for its smooth and mellow flavour, which comes from a blend of both malted and unmalted barley. The malted barley adds sweetness and complexity to the whisky, whilst the unmalted barley creates its characteristic smoothness. On the other side of the Atlantic, American whisky, also known as bourbon, is distilled. It is made from a blend of maize and other grains and is aged in new, charred oak casks. Bourbon has a sweet and robust flavour with notes of caramel, vanilla and oak.
