Customs & Export Declaration FAQ
There is no deposit on beer, soft drinks, and cider purchased in Scandlines' BorderShops. Therefore, you can only purchase these deposit-free items once you have completed an export declaration.
On the export declaration, you promise that the purchased deposit-free items will not be consumed until you have left Germany.
You must be a resident of Denmark, Sweden, or Norway to use an export declaration. The deposit-free items must be taken to a Scandinavian country and may not be opened in Germany.
How do I fill out an export declaration?
There are several ways you can fill out an export declaration:
- online at bordershop.com
- as part of your order when you place a pre-order
- on screens in the store.
As a consumer, you can import goods purchased in an EU country into Denmark duty-free, as long as the goods are purchased for your own use. This applies to all goods, including tobacco products, spirits, beer, and wine.

I'm buying beer, soda, or cider—do I need to bring anything with me?
Yes, when you buy beer, water, or cider (non-deposit items), you must fill out and present an export declaration and a valid Scandinavian passport/driver's license/health insurance card.
The information on the export declaration and on the passport/driver's license/health insurance card must match and belong to the person purchasing/picking up the goods.
If the passport/driver's license/health insurance card does not match the person picking up the pre-order, we are not allowed to hand over the goods.
